I'm naturally drawn to the graphic white and brown, and I've always had a bit of a weakness for the diamond pattern.

Plus, after all the seagrass and sisal, don't these look cozy? Soft and plush, without being goofy like flotaki?

The patterns are unique and rarely have a border; those rugs with a border are generally the result of outside influences.

The pieces are actually not designed as rugs, but rather beds and bed coverings. They are, apparently, quiet pliable.

They have been getting a quite a bit of play in the shelter magazines, as you can see.

And, as all good things need to be peddled to the masses, there are now look-alikes at William-Sonoma Home and, egads, Pottery Barn.

If you are interested, there is detailed information on the Blazek web site. To find sources for the rugs, you can Google Moroccan or Beni Ouarain rugs and quite a few sources, including the ones featured in this post, will appear. I certainly don't have anything against WSH or PB, but the real deal is not outrageously expensive. And, no doubt, it would have a deeper soul.
Mrs Blandings, you are not alone. I don't own this book either - although I'm working on it. I love those rugs too, but am starting to go off them a little because I've been seeing them everywhere. Silly really, I know.

ReplyDeleteLovely piece, Please come and see me, I just did a piece on where to source these rugs, directly through a fantastic company.

I still love these. When Domino did that sofa guide a while back, there was a pale pink Chippendale-style sofa juxtaposed with one of these along with sleek glass and metal tables, black-and-white art -- just so striking. I'm guessing it was Sara Ruffin Costello's own home.
ReplyDeletealso - PB rugs have some issues with smelling and poor quality that i've heard about. But I really love WSH ( sorry, I just do! ). I'd rather have the real deal though anyday!

ReplyDeleteYou really should own the book. That and his other book "Billy Baldwin Remembers", along with books by Mark Hampton and David Hicks, are the quintessential tomes on interior design in my opinion. Absolutely flawless sense of balance and taste.

I was going to comment that you could find a similar rug in the Weisz spread, but as I scrolled down I saw that you found it. ;)
ReplyDeleteI do own this book. It's falling apart from wear, a favorite. As far as the rugs go...I love sisal because it's easy to keep clean. Little ones would keep crumbs in the Moroccan rugs. Just life!
ReplyDeleteI want that BB book... I am counting on good karma at the Book Thing to find it... it took almost a year to find I Married Adventure, so maybe I will find this book soon.
