Sleep Tight

The Washington Post has a nice article on Blair House where the president-elect and his family will (try to) sleep tonight.  The Post notes that Blair House is "rarely seen on camera."  A special on the house will air Saturday at 7 p.m. EST on C-SPAN.  You can view more information on the house at its site here.

Post scipt - a reader just let me know that the airing of this special was last week.  DVDs are available through the C-SPAN site if you are interested.
Photo, used graciously but without permission, from the Washington Post.  I believe the photographer is Carol Highsmith.

Interesting~to see the late great Mark Hampton's work in today's context. In fact that room is full of colour, specifically moss green and golden yellow. The unexpected touch, cranberry glass, is evident in the chandelier and the items on the chimneypiece. Pelmet boards adapted from a design by Humphrey Repton.
It's everything a Mark Hampton room stood for: good manners, a sense of history lightly worn, stylish touches to keep it fresh. Needless to say, I'm a fan.

Blair House has never been open to the public. However, a high school friend used to be the 'curator' of Blair House and a bunch of us gals from her home town visited DC and had the honor of not only visiting Blair House, we had lunch there too!

Of course, this was BEFORE 9/11. Now, no one can get past security!

It was fabulous!

Thank you Patricia for the photo and the tip about the c-span special! That should be very interesting......I understand the Blair House is very well appointed , indeed! I can't even imagine what it was like for the Obamas last night! Hope they were able to "sleep tight"!

If it were me, I would not have been able to sketch or sleep. Well maybe I would be able to sketch there.

Toby - agree completely. There are more images on the Post site and Blair House's site as well.

Stephanie - what fun - made even better because it was a little "sneaky." That is a story for the grandchildren.

Patricia - It would be unbelievable wouldn't it? All those amazing experiences happening right on top of one another.

History in the making; it is all so fascinating. Just imagine what is going through the minds of the family and all of those involved.

I am sad to tell you that the Blair House special was on last Saturday not this coming Saturday--ie we missed it.

Perhaps they are rerunning it...?
