"If there were a Hallow's Eve Ebenezer Scrooge, that would be me." I wish I'd said that. I wish I did, but I didn't. Karen at Bonjour Bruxelles said it and captured my feelings completely.
But following a wonderful link from Victoria Thorne I found this.

Should a 42 year old man dressed as a California Highway Patrolman show up at your door Saturday night please do drop one of those in his candy sack.
Oh Patricia, I've ended the week a little teary-eyed - this is exquisite.

A wonderful Halloween treat indeed. I love to wrap myself in vintage Paisley, there is nothing better.
Ahhh! Paisley. Yummy!
I am a Hallow eve grump. I just don't like all of the goulish stuff around. It is far better to concentrate decorating efforts on fall themes.
Love the fabric. I have something similar that I have draped around the bottom of our Christmas tree for a few years. I keep wondering when I will repurpose the fabulous wool remnant for a higher purpose.
Yes, I'm with you! What a lovely treat this would be!

Gorgeous textile, love the color palette....
I'm with you on halloween. Trust us Americans to turn what was once a solemn way to honor the dead into a monster with no soul. I think this paisley, in a more red colorway would be smashing draped at your dining room windows perhaps with tortoiseshell bamboo blinds? And black vs white trim?
Love antique Paisleys--you are inspiring me to put mine out. I especially love the really big ones. My grandmother arrived from Ireland with one; my mother hung it one the wall and when it faded, through it out--ever since I have collected textiles and especially paisley beauties when I can find them in good condition (I think I am still saving them from my mother). Have a great week-end.
that might even be better than Christmas!
Paisleys are my passion. Unfortunately they've become so expensive, but I treat myself toone whenever I can.

I agree, and at times it hurts my feelings to see all those skulls and dead bodies and think about all my dear people who passed away or the people in war zone. It has become a "gross" celebration.
What happened to Charlie's great pumpkin raising from the patch?
I adore that throw/shawl/piece of beauty...
I love paisley, this reminds me of India and travels, far from Halloween Land...

Wappy weekend!

How marvelous that you have a penchant for paisley shawls. They are indeed lovely, but so often in shreds and tatters given their age and oftentimes careless storage in the intervening years. You are fortunate to find one in such good condition. Do take a gander at Reese Witherspoon in the film of "Vanity Fair" to see how these were worn in the day. While it is undeniably a case of bad-miscasting (Reese as Becky Sharpe?) the sets and costumes are delicious and sumptuous and include a scene in which Ms. Witherspoon is gorgeously draped in such a paisley as yours. Turns out they were the pashminas of their day, where every fashionable was in a frenzy to own and wear one...or as many as she could get her hands on. My grandmother, who inherited hers from an ancestress (these were at the height of popularity I believe at the time of the Crimean War or thereabouts), draped hers over a black lacquered grand piano, covered with large silver-framed black and white portrait photographs. It seemed the height of chic to me as a child and on one level it still does all these years hence...albeit through a very different aesthetic lense from those employed today.
I'm with you. Kids dressed up in costumes who love candy, cute. Macabre decorations, not for me.
Boo humbug -- I'll take the paisley!
Oh for god's sakes, it's about laughing at death, which once in a while is exhilarating.
This culture could do with a little less wallowing in victimhood.
I know what I am wearin tonight to my daugther's party - thanks for the great idea!
and - I'll look great in jail when they haul Ben and I down there for teenage drinking. pray for me..
Thanks to you, one chair was delivered to be re-upholstered from a dreary black to a brilliant paisley.
Any tips for a new coffee table will gladly be a treat.
My kind of treat. Happy November NOW!

Can never get enough of these shawls. And neither could women in France in the early 19th century, if the portraits by Ingres are any indication.
I love the paisleys that i've collected over the years and have used as tablecloths, throws and yes, under the christmas tree. i love to bring them out in the fall and scatter them around the house - their coloring is perfect for the season. thanks for the lovely reminder....robi
Dear Mrs. Blandings,
Aren't you the refreshingly wonderful contrarian opting for paisley over the corrosive candies of Hallow's eve.
A prudent and beguiling alternative to be sure.
Eye candy! Delicious. Wish I had one to place at the foot of the comforter. Or drape around Mrs. E. for a quick stroll to the neighbouring bistros.
Yes! And less worry about cavities too.
Aye-aye on Halloween, Mrs B.
I LOVE November 1.
Halloween is history.
Would giving squirts of hand lotion (or sanitizer) as the reward for coming to our door, be so bad?
Of course this is only playing out in my mind, as our 3 kids would be mortified.
Here's to November.
Oh, and that paisley nugget of beauty.
