(Will) I Love LA (?)

Nick Olsen is California dreaming and so am I.  I think I went to Los Angeles when I was a kid.  I think.  It's a little foggy, but I have a vague memory of Disneyland.  Megan Arquette at beachbungalow8 has been saying, "Come to LA!" for three years, but there's always been the kids and their stuff and, well, it never happened.  Then Elle Decor called and said, "Do you want to go to LA?" and I said, "Um.  Sure!"  Not that Elle Decor means more to me than Megan, but, well, you know.

Elle Decor is hosting a keynote panel on Wednesday, March 24th at 11a.m. moderated by editor, Margaret Russell.  Panelist are Michael Bruno, founder of 1st dibs, interior designer, Vicente Wolf, Mayer Rus, Design and Culture Editor of the L.A. Times magazine - and me.  Of, here.  Funny, huh?  The event takes place during WestWeek, which is all kinds of good design fun at the PDC.

I know it's a month away, but it's cold here and it's warm there and I'm pretty darn excited.  I'd love to see you there.

  4. The weather is still a little chilly here in Hollywood, by March no worries we'll have lots of sunshine. Enjoying your blog, thanks for the inspiration.

  5. I once ended up with a box of Pat Buckley's monogrammed matches. There's 20 bucks in it for you if you can lift Margaret Russell's lipstick.

Seriously though, its fabulous, and not at all surprising. Congratulations on your inclusion.

  6. You're going to have a fabulous time! So jealous and so wish I could make it. I love LA and the west coast period! We honeymooned there, LA, Santa Barbara, Big Sur, San Fran. Have a great time and I can't wait to hear your thoughts. Hope you are well.

BTW, have bagged the slipcover nightmare all together and dreamed up a better solution that has nothing to do with chairs. Decided trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear isn't worth the time and money. My Motley Crue of chairs will just have to do. Everyone hear seems to think it will be OK.

I'll post on it when I get it done. What have you decided on yours?

  7. How exciting! I'm sure we can arrange fabulous weather by then. xo Lidy

  9. I love LA and I think I need to get me a tickie and fly there. Another snow storm is en route, this one is touted to be a "big dump." Reason enough to want to leave this town for that town.

  10. I went to some kind of discussion thing on some topic I cannot remember in a NY Design showroom that featured the testy taste maker on the panel. he was great, and loose and so much fun. I really think you will have a great time doing this.
    And I love LA.
Old Hollywood. Pinks hot dogs. The Formosa. The canyons and hills and greenery, and the Beverly Hills hotel, and the big blue design center. Have fun!

  11. that is very exciting - congrats on being part of a fine group of panelists - and pleasant weather as a bonus

  12. I'll be in California the week after next - in Orange County - if this event were going on during the same time I would have made the drive into LA! Have fun.

  13. You WILL love L.A. You will find traveling around L.A. to be the challenge; the traffic is untenable.

That line-up for Elle Decor's event sounds like a dream team. Mayer Rus!!!!!! And you!!!!

    Best wishes from SNOmaha,

    Amy Lett Rouse

  15. FANTASTIC! Bully for you, Mrs. B! Recognition comes in many flavours but this must be like a triple banana split sundae. Congratulations!

  16. Conveniently timed around spring break. Can I convince my kids to go to Disney instead of Norman? Much congratulations - terrific panel and your inclusion rounds it out. Marija

  17. Sounds like an exciting trip for you. LA can be a lot of hustle and bustle but fun place to visit. Overcast in the mornings from the ocean but clears by noon. You will have sun and fun I am sure, can't wait to hear all about it. I lived there for 5 yrs and that was enough for me, I can't stand the traffic, but lots to do, that is for sure, Kathysue

  18. It all sounds wonderful...but the best part for me would be Vincente Wolf. So now I will pout with insane amounts of jealousy!

  21. So glad you'll be there to represent the flyover states. Well done and congratulations.

  22. My son and daughter in law live just a smidge to the left of the H in the sign. I'd love to see and hear you speak. Is it open to the public?

  23. Go, Go, Go and Go! plus, there will be sunshine and great hiking in canyons to do. will be good to see Megan. but prepare for pain-in-the-ass traffic and no empty parking around the PDC!

  24. Wow! Congrats! To be asked by Margaret Russell and to meet all the panelists. Heaven! Have a wonderful time..who knows...maybe I will see you there. I'd love to make it down.

  25. Congrats. You will adore LA. It's best in very short doses. Have a fabulous time, and never think of us stuck in the flyovers.

  26. Patricia!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS HUGE! Margaret Russell moderating too?! LOL! Oh girl, tell me they are providing live streaming video of it. Will you find out? I want to watch you, up on stage, answering rapidfire questions. How exciting!

  27. Well! Kudos Mrs. B.! Well-deserved. Send jet-set dispatches from the road.

  28. I have never been either, but so many people rave about it! I am dying to go to the Getty. Oh, to escape the snow...enjoy!

  29. Congratulations. I hope you'll have a wonderful time.

  30. What are you going to talk about car pool, school lunches, how ugly your dining room looks, or your boring blog?

    ReplyDelete
  31. This is the coolest thing I've heard all week, and I wish I could be there, but you just better pray that Margaret doesn't misplace her lipstick that day, because thanks to David, you'll be Suspect No. 1.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Thanks so much - it's completely surreal.

David - If I'm swiping her lipstick, I'm keeping it for myself.

Gardener's Cottage - I'm not sure, but will find out and let you know.

Anon - I'll talk about anything Margaret asks me to, including people bizarre enough to regularly read blogs they don't enjoy.

  33. How exciting for you! Mayer Rus is the best. One reason I so miss the late, lamented House & Garden is because his Testy Tastemaker was such a fun read. (Or was it Tasty Testmaker?) Yes, yes, I read his LA Times mag blog, but it just isn't the same. And then you get Vicente Wolf, Michael Bruno and Margaret Russell at the same table? Too much fun! The conversation had better be scintillating.

  34. I grew up not too far from Megan and used to go the beach where she lives all the time while in high school. Get away from the city, head to the coast and you will love it. The Chart House in Redondo Beach was always one of my fave restaurants right on the water!
A great honor for you...go and have a blast!

  35. Major case of the green-eyed monster here, but you will LOVE La La Land and knock 'em dead on the panel!!

And since we're making requests, I'd like a mousetrap from Chateau Marmont and a lock of Justin Bobby's hair.

    Gracias!

  36. I'm still chuckling at that anon comment.ummm.... ya. that's exactly what they'll be discussing. Anon, your brilliant.

I'm so looking forward to your visit and hearing you moderate. Great line up!

  37. My home town!
Can you fly to San Francisco (only 1 hour away!) for lunch one day?

    ReplyDelete
  38. I can see that this is going to be a burden for you Mrs. B, so I'm OK to act as your substitute. Please book me my regular seat 12A on QF11 Sydney-LA. That 15 hour flight is nothing, believe me.
    Millie ^_^

I've been reading your blog for over a year. You once said about yourself that you were middle-middle-middle, not so, Mrs. Blandings. Hope to visit KC one day. Best wishes, bg
