I'm not going to pull punches; I've been thumbs down on the Designers' Showhouse for a while, but this year a friend called and said, "Please come see. They have made a big effort. It is so much better." And it is. Much. There are several rooms that are very, very good, including this one by
Kyle Wells Design. The Showhouse is open through May 16th. All the info is
here. Check it out. Could be the dawning of a new era.

I am in love with the green chairs.
Jan and Doug make very pretty rooms, I like their aesthetic a lot. We'd not really thought about the showhouse but we're going to have to go now. I need to check the underside of that cocktail table for a maker so I can track it down.
Patricia, I certainly hope so, the design team of Kyle Wells did a great job on this, glad they were involved.

I love the repetition o the shapes in this space...first thing I noticed...with the exception of the fab green chairs. I love to go to showhomes for a couple of reasons. I like to see what other designers are doing when they don't have a client to please, and I hope to see something fresh and new that inspires me. I hope this one does. I'd love to see pics since I'm to far to come.
I agree, I think this showhouse is better than the others I have been to in KC. I did like the master bedroom, it was soothing and different but not too over the top as it could have been. The master bath was just beautiful.
Agree 100% about designer showhouses being pretty ghastly. My friend, the furniture designer, is taking part in one here, and his room is wonderful, but some of the other ones i've seen at the house (in pix) are awful.
Hello!
That chaise/sofa looks inviting.
BTW Happy Mother's Day, Mrs. Blandings and your 3 boys.

This is really interesting. I really enjoyed the history of the home ownership - as I live in a 1940s home that has an interesting past owners and interesting stories.
I wish I could see it in person! Glad you went!
The green chairs are great and the chaise/couch thingy is pretty cool too! And actually, the table isn't bad either...
Have a wonderful Mother's Day weekend! If anyone deserves it it's you!

Patricia, I think we'd all enjoy a video tour with you as guide. Happy Mother's Day!
Courtney - Ha! I think you should go first.
Those kelly green chairs are marvelous! And love the grey chinoiserie pillow.

Designer showhouses and garden tours always get free press locally. And it seems to be always good local press.
Why?
Why not give them the same critic treatment of new movies, plays, books, restaurants, concerts?

Tara - My guess would be because they are not pure commercial ventures. They support charitable organizations. It feels a little creepy, honestly.
